PETER AVERY is the Director of Theater for the New York City Department of Education--focused on the significant impact a dedicated theater education has for youth, their teachers and school communities in the nation's largest public school system. Avery is always looking to develop or promote innovative theater programs focused on youth artistry, access, equity, and inclusion for NYC public school students of all ages and abilities. With professional experience directing and working in nonprofit theaters, teaching at universities, leading the theater education charge in government, and producing with Broadway, Avery brings a unique ability to hear all perspectives and produce lasting programs that serve current youth and communities as well as those not yet served.
